Default Face on camera flash.

Whilst out on the job delivering car parts today I was flashed by Mr. Gatso, two flashes from the front by a camera on the other side with no marker lines on my side. I may have been a smidgeon over the limit but surely this aint going to result in a nip?
The wife will knock lumps out of me if it does, that be twice in 5 months on the same stretch of road.

Gatso cameras cannot be used to prosecute oncoming traffic. Sometimes they can be twitchy and go off at random, but aren't set to detect vehicles driving towards them.

Assuming it is a GATSO not a TRUVELO then you will be OK and given that you saw the flash then that's my thinking...

GATSOs get you from behind, so to speak and TRUVELOs from in front...

BUT read this and you should find the answer...

Truvelos don't flash. Unless you've got very weird eyes.

Martin, get yerself a sat nav (Snooper) and download the cashpoint d-base. They may look a bit naff, but there's no excuse.

They do flash but are not supposed to be seen to do so but some people in certain light conditions can see it...

There are so many types now, I thought it best to provide a link to that site...

Pretty sure it looks like a gatso box. it has the range of white marks (maybe 8 or 10) on the same side of the road and it definitely flashed twice, fingers crossed although I will go past it tomorrow and have a good look at it. Cheers guys.

If it was a Gatso then you will be OK. The units are not approved for taking pictures towards ... though they can.

Live cameras are set up to only flash from behind you i.e. no picture of driver.

If one of the Gatso's flashes you as you go towards it then it means there is a dummy unit in it.

There are at least two types of dummy unit. The cheaper one is less accurate and can flash people only a bit over the limit. The dearer dummy unit is far more accurate and expensive but still a dummy Both of the dummy units flash cars coming towards .... the live ones don't !

Thanks John!

I did wonder; there was one in Barnet that only flashed oncoming traffic irrespective of speed and was quite dazzling at night.

Safety camera my arse!

They want you to crash, as you know the cause of all crashes is speed.
Therefore they can justify more humps, speed cameras etc.

Thanks for your input John, and as someone mentioned HUMPS, I see as I drove home tonight the council have painted marks on the road showing the workers where to place the damn things. I will pay close attention to these and maybe be out with a tape to check the size when completed. Pretty sure the local bus company will these love too, the humps are usually big enough to affect the buses when travelling up the road.
