I maintain that as the barrels bear their name, address and barcode, they are the ones who are, in the first instance, answerable to me for what happened.
That doesn't really have a leg to stand on - did Bulmers load the van? If no then the company that did are responsible.

The logistics / delivery company will be insured for loads etc and that is why Bulmers use them rather than have their own.

A weak analogy is you have an accident in your S and crash into someone and it is human / driver error. Are Honda responsible for selling you the car?

The Thelwall viaduct is not far from me. About 15-20yrs ago an artic on the M6 approaches to the old bridge lost a rear wheel from a rear axle.....it bounced its way across the carriageway into oncoming traffic & ploughed into a people carrier killing all four people as i recall. Massive hoo-haa in the local paper obviously.

MQ, Mr CJ is a lorry driver and he is responsible for his load. If Bulmers use an outside party to transport the goods, then they are right to ask you to contact them.

Ask to speak to the Transport Manager

I totally agree with that Kelk.

I used the word answerable, not responsible, on purpose. I am hoping that they might provide some answers by putting me in contact with the logistics company responsible. The lorry driver, as I said, continued on his way oblivious and the other drivers involved were too busy taking avoiding action to get the registration number before the lorry disappeared around the next bend.

Not getting on too well with Bulmers/Heineken as I have already intimated.

They told me that their collection of empty barrels is dealt with by Kegwatch. Just had a email from Kegwatch saying that they do not own or distirbute kegs or casks so it could not have been one of their vehicles.

Seems like the inbox to the latest email address that Bulmers have given me is full now.

Glad I am not in the habit of being an agitator.

I had a kingsize matches hit straight on to my windscreen but it was so soft so it bounce back and hit the car behind me and so on.... It was on the A13 about 2 years ago and the car didn't have one single scratch!

The barrel is branded Kuehne + Nagel, a logistics firm.

I'd start with one of the email addresses on the link.

It is their barrel!
They have a duty of care no matter who they sub contract in to transport it!
It is for them to take this up with their contractor.

It's not their barrel, it's rented by them to put their sorry excuse for cider in, but it's owned by the logistics company.

I would strongly suspect Bulmers have no duty of care whatsoever in this case, they simply rent barrel space.

They run bonded ( alcohol ) warehouse supplies in the uk - think they deal with tobacco as well as booze, not short of a penny or two either
