Not over your vantage? Very different cars indeed.
Its a supercar, the vantage isnt.. maybe the v12 is..

I'd be much happier leaving the Vantage parked than a Ferrari. Vantage strikes me as an everyday car, only the front engined GT Ferrari's look like they can do that role.

I suppose part of that is my point. The vantage is a undoubtedly a work of art but ultimately more of a GT, the 458 has a different level of presence and performance

but then it is a £200k car

Its like comparing the S to an entry level 911 imo. Absurd

Absurd conjecture and ill-informed opinions is what the internet is made for. It's in the original RFC.

I've driven a db9

Aston c430bhp/1600kg ~ 271bhp/ton, new price <£100k
458 c570bhp /1500Kg ~380bhp/ton new price >£200k

You're perfectly entitled to prefer the aston of course but my point is i dont think the two stand direct comparison. Imagine i said i drove MBs porsche and said 'nice but...'. Its a little churlish or at least sounds it

The 458 is a benchmark is modern supercars according to almost everything i read/watch. The v12 vantage is 6s slower than the 458 around bedford. It does 0-100 as fast as a bike. Its a step change in supercar performance.

The aston is more comparable to the 911 really

Hey don't compare my lean (1395kg) semi race car to a heavy posing pouch

Some say the GT3 is super car territory, some not... But I'd say other 911 variants compare to the Vantage. GT3 is a stripped out weapon. No slight against the Vantage, I think it's a total dream car and the S is the bollocks!

I agree on the 458 though, its a benchmark car and while I've never driven it or the McLaren, I wouldn't hesitate in choosing the 458, not even a second. It's a massive leap over the 430, and I thought that was a nice machine. What they've done to gt the power from that engine I don't know, but I see it as a bit of a failing that McLaren had to go turbo.

Nottm - DB9 is "pipe & slippers" car the thread is about a V8 convertible not a V12 coupe
I don't disagree the 458 is a benck mark BUT we are talking about roof off cars NOT coupes
Lets not forget the 458 spider STARTS at £200k (DBS money)
If you want a focussed performance car as a roadster there are very few choices
A properly speced 458 spider will be knocking on twice the cost of a Vantage S roadster.
I doubt it's that much better, but I'll find out in good time

BTW I had a look at a Gallardo LP560-4 spider at the weekend.
Not impressed, too much Audi on show & I can't get the seats low enough to prevent a forehead blasting from the top of the windscreen
Now I would take the 458 spider over that or a 997 Turbo S convertible
