Anyone not thought of lightening a used 06 Focus ST, after a Bluefin remap?

For 5-6k now, these are in range of the boy racer brigade Lovely lift-off o/s, lardy I admit (after owning one) but on the right tyres and shedding some fat, it is a pleasing little combination and quite a bit of fun as a car. Pops 'n bangs on the overrun as standard, sounds more satisfying with that 5 pot warble than the 4cyl T in the Fezza. We have a Zetec Focus, wife sometimes hints she's like to swap up to another Rooney-mobile.

Looking through my Xmas edition of TopGear mag, I see the Fezza ST pitched against my first love (car), Mk2 XR2. This was my first car at 21 and I'll never forget it. Gritty, sounded boomy, light 'n' nimble.. and had q bit of movement to it. Terrible engine of course, the old CVH!

17-18k for a Fiesta.. Jesus! Sounds a lot of money but you are getting alot of bang for buck.

I hope Ford bring back & re-invent the Puma...

Only looking at Fiesta ST for a bit of fun and local driving.

Would not change for a Focus ST as if I change it is for something smaller that I won't have to worry about for a couple of years that is cheaper on tax and fuel.

I guess the Fiesta will be worth zip in a couple of years though versus the BMW which will still be worth a fair bit. Ford offer £17700 for A1 condition on my BMW at the moment (which it is) online so I could practically swap if I wished.

Drove one today, looking at it as a run about for Mrs K
Build qualityty is very good
though you can see where some cost has been taken out
It is well laid out though, nippy as well with good economy on a run apparently
Three problems though
The ride is hard as f@#k
Tyre noise is REALLY bad
Screen and roof line slope very gently making it a little claustrophobic

So its a no from me

Sat her in a Focus ST and we had a
So I'll have to try and find a Mountune one to try out

Thanks for this. I will drive one and see if my middle aged body fits ! I have a 330d as it fits ... but is not going to be good for the journeys I will be doing and parking spaces I will be trying to get into.

Ok, so driven - this is what I posted on a BMW forum :

Well, driven for half an hour in heavy traffic, rain and on a dual carriageway.

Impressions –

Engine superb even as standard pulling from low down with gusto and free revving to the red line. It felt quite quick even as standard without the Mountune kit. Silly piped in engine noise not my cup of tea though – but only on acceleration. Car is quiet other than that. Ultimately slower than my 330d but that is because it is remapped.

Sales girl said Leatherhead to Wimbledon giving 31mpg – which is about what my 330d would give.

Gearbox – brilliant, totally brilliant. Best gearbox short of an MX5 or S2000. Very, very accurate and a short easy throw. Clutch ok and not too heavy at all. Space to the left of the pedal though not huge and my big wide feel had a slight issue in big shoes/boots.

Steering well weighted – ideal in fact. The steering wheel felt a bit big though. Nice thickness and feel to the wheel though. Torque steer is there but very minor I felt. Car spun up in 2nd but the conditions were very bad so not unexpected on a fwd car.

Seats – very comfy but bolsters on side a little tight for my 16 st body – but not so tight as to be uncomfortable. Edged in leather and softer than I expected. They work well with the car. They adjust for height and reach but not tilt ... and I found the front angled a bit higher than I have the BMW so a bit odd. Getting out I realised I probably had everything a bit close to me so further fiddling would be needed in the showroom to convince me it would fit me.

Handling – As best I could tell very good. Steering and suspension work well together to produce something I felt was a hoot to drive.

Ride – Hard, as everyone comments on but tbh speed humps and the like it is rock solid but the normal ride was great. Better than I feared.

Build – excellent, a few 1000 on this one and no rattles or creaks. Sat Nav more than adequate.

Size – Well, a Fiesta is a bit of a change from a 330d E92 but I found it easy to drive and worth a good think about.

Would I buy one - yes, seriously impressed. Will I buy one - well, when you already have a 330d with no issues that makes the decision more down to do I wish to downsize. It certainly made me want to go back and have another look.

After much annoyance with silly trade in prices for my 330d a Fiesta ST2 is now ordered with Mountune kit for 6.4 to 60 fun .... late March delivery.

The BMW goes :-( No room still for another S2K ... I have gone all small again, a Smart Fortwo and a little black Fiesta ... middle aged crisis the wrong way lol

Well, after just 3 1/2 months the Fiesta ST love affair has proved to be brief and one of those things you thought would be good but didn't work out - oops !

I have taken the hit and traded it - the poor thing only has 2K on it !

I just found I couldn't get used to the seating position which proved far too 'sit up and beg' for my liking. The car was built well, went really well for what it is and was liked by everyone who came out in it ... except me. I had only driven the car around town on 2 test drives and it was great - but taken on a long run my back and legs ached due to the tilted angle of the front Recaro seats which you can't adjust.

What is replacing it ... I considered Golf R and Cupra 280 but coming from two S2000's I decided another convertible should be added to my Smart Fortwo diesel; thus a BMW Z4 35iS is replacing the Fiesta.

I am told there are only 150 ('ishh) in the UK and having driven it roof up and down I loved the standard BMW sports exhaust, the acceleration (0-62 in 4.8) and the build quality.

Apologies now for those wanting a nice summer as each year I have a convertible it rains

The 2 days wait for it is going to seem forever !
