The one i looked at was 23k, looked like new inside and out and had lovely sport classic wheels.

Brakes felt crap, but looked new! Drivers seat didnt work properly, wind noise through drivers window seal, and as mentioned a coolant light was annunciated on the dash ! All promised to be fixed by the dealer.

If I get one it wont be that one, but it will be used as my everyday car when at work, not really a beater as such. Im thinking about spending a little more and getting a 2001+ model. Maybe with the veloce XS wheels, sports exhaust and a GT3 kit !

GT3 kit should stay on GT3s!

Big for PSE though. Pity they don't do it for the 993.....

I do like the Sports Classic wheels - much better (IMHO) than the 18" Turbo wheels.

Brakes do feel crap compared with s2000 but they are good you just need to push harder as the servo is different than the s2ooo. I thought this when I first drove one. Also my seat was broken funny enough but the opc fixed it. I have the gt3 kit on mine and I had the pse fitted last xmas, the sound is awesome and as the engine is in the back you don't get any drone like I did with the s2000.

What do the classic wheels look like? I think the 996 bog standard without the gt3 kit looks very dull but it's all about opinions.

As long as carreras arent badged as GT3's i think its ok to wear their aeros !

This one is getting close to what I want. 2years too old, and dont like the blue interior on a blue car but love the Veloce XS wheels.

Porsche wheels should be smooth, simple & understated, in order to match the teardrop purity of the bodyshape, for Fuchs sake.

The warnings you've had are sage advice! Whilst it's not exactly a common problem, there have been a number of early 3.4 996s that have had engine failure problems. Leaky rear main seals and header tank failures are also common and, whilst not serious, will cost you several hundred quid to sort out.

(There's a lot of useful info in the PistonHeads Porsche forum on the engine problem - search for posts by Hartech - he's an indy engineer who does a lot of work on 996s and has been doing research on the source of the problem)

OPC warranty is available until the earlier of 10 years old or 125,000 miles. So, you can get it under warranty for at least one more year. And IMHO, you really should if you don't want to have to cover any problems out of your own pocket.

I wasn't aware that the Porsche warranty now went to 10 years though - it only used to be for cars up to 8 years old.

Be aware that at the last time of my asking the warranty was also close to the

And just to add further fuel to the fire where that argument is concerned, there is a post in the PH Porsche forum today from a 997 owner whose car has been diagnosed with a leaky RMS....
Hence my choice not to buy another Porsche and to give the S2K a punt!

The idea of Porsche producing a new variant boxster/911 and still failing to fix one of the most widely known problems amongst Porsche drivers made my blood boil.

Having said that if they fixed it i'd still have another one in a heartbeat (as well as the S!)
