Post Finance

Yo

I need some advice regarding financing a car.

I want to supplement my car addiction with a 1998 Carrera 2. I require finance for approximately half the value of the car.

The car dealer is offering 5% over and a 3 year term.

Is that a good deal, What is the norm?

Cheers

R

Ps dont panic the S2000 is staying in my possesion aswell!!

OT but you'd be VERY well advised to put the car through the Porsche 111 point check and get a Porsche warranty if you're intent on buying an early 996, given the engine problems that a number of early cars have had.....

Thanks for the info, im a complete finance virgin! I thought flat rate was better, bless !

I have driven the car, very smooth engine. Front end felt a bit light. Needs a few things to be perfect-drivers seat motor and a window seal.

Regards to the engine problems, I have read about them. It had a new clutch etc and its first RMS done at 62k in August this year. Serviced at OPC till '05, then a very well known independant in the area after.

So its 9years old 62k, I need to research if it is still coverable by the Porsche warranty. If not ive been told be ready for some large repair bills for possible engine/box/header tank failures ! Which I dont want to self fund !

The warnings you've had are sage advice! Whilst it's not exactly a common problem, there have been a number of early 3.4 996s that have had engine failure problems. Leaky rear main seals and header tank failures are also common and, whilst not serious, will cost you several hundred quid to sort out.

(There's a lot of useful info in the PistonHeads Porsche forum on the engine problem - search for posts by Hartech - he's an indy engineer who does a lot of work on 996s and has been doing research on the source of the problem)

OPC warranty is available until the earlier of 10 years old or 125,000 miles. So, you can get it under warranty for at least one more year. And IMHO, you really should if you don't want to have to cover any problems out of your own pocket.

Lumps of granite & igneous shale might be the only Northern Rocks worth anything at the mo!

It's amazing that no-one seems to have got to the bottom of the RMS issue as yet!

And just to add further fuel to the fire where that argument is concerned, there is a post in the PH Porsche forum today from a 997 owner whose car has been diagnosed with a leaky RMS....
