First Time Motorcycle Advice
Andy..
I did my CBT and DAS this time last year.
In March i purchased a shiny new CBR600RR.
In June I wrote it off.
the key item here is that you will be an inexperienced rider coming from performance cars. the CBR600RR, despite what Jamie says, is a stupidly quick machine compared to most cars. in a straight line it will wave bye bye to all but the most exotic cars with 0-100mph taking about 7s
this needs to be a personal choice and i wouldn't have bought anything but a sports bike and i would do the same again... the difference being i would then go straight onto advanced training. the std of training for the test is noddy. you want an ex police instructor or such like
the CBR is not comfortable for me and i'm a shortarce
.. my advice is go for it but go for the training too.. i'm doing more next year. it brings you on leaps and bounds.. one piece of advice i should have had and later did have is "if you go into a corner too hot get off the front brake, on the back"
i've got a new bike and i've done about 3k miles in total. great fun

And take the long way round on the road, so you can always lay the bike down more. It probably will grip & go round, if you're brave enough.
Take the racing line and it's far less adjustable on the way out.

When you say uncomfortable - in what way ?? Worse for me being taller ??
The school I am doing my test training with are reknown for being good in the area. They also run post test training which to be honest I hadn't considered but definitely will now
Thanks again

this is only the new honda examples and they will wheelie, you can get your knee down and even do track days on them.
the cbr600rr is a lovley bike but having owned a 2004 cbr1000rr fireblade and only being 5'6 trust me you'll be cramped.
there are loads of difrent types of bikes out there go to a big showroom and sit on all difrent types, take your kit and licence and you should be able to have a few test rides.
I've been riding for 14 yrs and curently own a honda firestorm 60 comes up in just over 3 seconds and 100 in about 3-4 more and thats a 11 yr old sports tourer top end is only 150mph though sir could concider the suzuki hyubusa which can touch 200mph on a good day.

My first bike (9 years ago now) was the CB600 Hornet, great first bike as they are fast and easy to handle. I then moved up to a CBR600 Fsport, which i had 2 of, then a 954 Blade. I would recommend the Hornet to anyone as a first bike, and they are fast enough to keep up with most other stuff unless you are talking big top speeds
The 600RR is a tiny bike and when i originally tried one i wasnt keen as its not that comfortable and i'm only 6ft. Same with any new sportsbike really, the screens on the new R1 and R6 might as well not be there!

If you want more power than the 600 Hornet, the CB1000R looks the business, around £6k for a second hand one (08 plate) and they are a slightly detuned Fireblade engine in a lovely naked frame with some rather tasty styling...

Suzuki SV650 takes a bit of beating as a first bike.
I have a Triumph Street Triple and it's superb and would make a great first bike but might be a bit small for you.
Otherwise maybe the CBR600F might fit the bill.
I really believe that unless you are going to do trackdays the supersports type bikes are daft on UK roads...equally I know why they appeal (I have bought enough myself).
