Fog lights or "poor visiblity lighting" in fog is one thing but when they are applied in wet conditions they only succeed in dazzling other road users.

I have to say the use of front fog lights in snow seems ridiculous as this surely has the same effect of blinding the person driving by reflecting the light back at them?

 

I have never used any front foglights in over thirty years' driving

they are a complete waste of time and the more prosecutions the better afaiac

rear foglights are another matter and not a big issue for me

yes, a few people forget to turn them off but I can't get too upset about that

I get more upset about people who don't put them on when visibility is terrible

 

Fair point, I think my Z4 Coupe has those as options but my old Peugeot 306 and Renault Megane Coupe didn't

 

Around here they seam to be a very useful alternative to replacing that blown headlight bulb.

 

In my S, 10 years old 65k miles, i have only switched on the rear fog lights once for about 5 mins, never any need at other times, but i am clearly not driving properly unlike most other people

 

Car makers dont help, a BMW Mini (first series) for example, tiny led
light on the switches.

More education needed I reckon, in many aspects of driving. Most of
what we (as 'keen' drivers) witness is just ignorance. Sometimes I
might undertake on the empty M1 late at night coming back home from
the g/fs, I stare at the driver and he looks bemused etc etc, I dont
think some drivers genuinely know their etiquette.

This is a huge bugbear of mine.

I only ever turn the rear foglights on if there is heavy fog (not rain or snow) and I cannot see the headlights of any cars following me.

I never use front foglights, ever.

My Skoda had them linked so the backs would only come on if the fronts were on.
How stupid is that?

I took the bulbs out of the front ones in the end, it was pissing me off.

 

Personally, others driving with front fogs on hasn't really bothered me as long they are correctly adjusted... rears and misadjusted head lights I find far more dazzling....

do agree tho, that polite and correct driving means you only use these things in heavy fog (i.e very rarely)...
