I had an 53 plate diesel.

Was a great load lugging car, comfy, great mpg and diesel engine was good.

Not much to go wrong on them.

don't buy velour interior or a kitted st example. velour interior never cleans properly and st's loose money faster than a chav can pop out rug rats

2.0 diesels sound like buses from the day they're built but return half decent mpg figures and as long as it's got a fsh should hit all the right notes.

i'm an old fiesta owner and i can vouch that most things ford snap when you take them apart, but to be fair, it's cheap design and cheap replacement. i drive modern day mondingos around every day as i work for a car hire company.

hope that helps a little

Well, I've a Mk2 2.0 Zetec, 76k on it, and apart from some odd idling last month, which cleared itself, it's not given me any bother at all in 2.5 years of ownership - not counting a new condenser for the AC.

I brought a Mint 1995 2ltr Ghia X Auto as a work runaround, 95k on the clock and a full ford history, i had it checked and my mechanic said it was one of the best examples he had seen for its age.

500 miles later the Auto box went and i was told its quite common, it would have cost approx a grand to fix, so i would say make sure you check the auto box throughly as it seems to be the weak spot for the car, it made a pleasant change to the S, mainly because i didn't have to contort myself to fit in it
