It was still fairly straight ahead.

I was disappointed it wasn't condensed / speeded up: by my rough reckoning they'd all have gone much faster than the speed of sound for most of the circuit and any sound track would have been ear-shattering

What is it with the Mercs? If you qualify on pole, you get a bad start?

Thank f@#k for that ... was the only interesting bit of the 'race' ... even the drivers are bored, JB is so bored that he is taking a year out to do something a bit more exciting.

I must admit, it was a bit of a dull race.

The aero is that advanced now that if a butterfly flaps its wings in Tokyo, F1 cars will lose 30 points of downforce.

They need to limit the aero complexity to under the car and only allow front wings with one element per side and not aero devices on the brake ducts etc.

Monza was a snoozer. I'll be at the SGP, hopefully it will be exciting!

I'm unsure where to sit for the Singapore GP - where did you go for?

I'm in the pit grandstand, although most of the guides say that turn 1 is best.

Or, as I've said before, just reduce the overall surface area of the car (excluding tyres) which surely nowadays can be easily checked/verified by 3D laser scanning etc..

Let the designers and engineers explore ways of "spending" their surface area and take F1 back to a period when different teams employed different design approaches/strategies. Some teams might go for complicated undertrays, whilst others might stick to body-mounted wings. Either way, it might mean mechanical grip, ie. chassis and suspension design, is at a greater premium.

That's not what's happening for 2017 though. They've increased the tyre size to increase mechanical grip. The cars are wider and the wings are wider so they'll be more aero grip too.

However, i hope that since the aero generating surfaces will be bigger and there is more fundamental mechanical grip, the cars will be less susceptible to turbulent air.

The drivers seem to think that they'll be harder to drive but a lot faster.

People always say they want harder to drive, faster and more mechanical grip. I've never been convinced that will equal better racing. You only get better racing through the cars being more even and that means leaving the regulations alone.

Boring race after the start, mainly because Hamilton vs. the Ferraris was decided on pit stop strategy. That sort of thing isn't going to be any different. We had the most boring race of the year (probably) at Monza where the aero makes least difference (at least to cornering) so is aero the problem? Don't think so.
