The Formula 1 Thread - 2019
On 1 June 2019, five-year-old Harry Shaw took his last breath after a tough 10 month battle against Ewing’s Sarcoma; a rare bone cancer. The fund raising appeal has topped £255,000, there is a new target of £350k so if anyone here is feeling that they ought to help.-

Rest in peace Harry, a short life but loved by his devoted parents, friends, family and Lewis.

We’ve recently watched more of the F1 practice sessions, not working any more so lots of spare time, and the banter between the commentary team is great, lightens even the quiet spells, pity it wasn’t the same during the races we might watch more.
I won't pay line Sky's pockets by paying for Sky Sport just for the one sport I want to watch, so haven't watched a single race live, I can't be alone in this F1 must have lost many fans because of Sky's monopoly. Now something like this happens to make me think why bother at all? Surely an incident like this should have been decided after the race after the evidence could have been collected, then a decision on the penalty made.
I do think after watching the video a few times Vettel could have tried harder to re-join safely, and the excuse I didn't know he was there just doesn't wash in motor sport, knowing where the other competitors are is crucial. If I crashed into another car on the road, the excuse "I didn't see the other car" would put the blame squarely on me, after all I'm not the Duke of Edinburgh.

We have the F1 channel in our package though we aren’t paying for it, think it was chucked in when we went HD? On the race, I thought the penalty harsh but I’m no steward so my opinion counts for zero, would it have been the same if it had been Hamilton off in front of Bottas?
I too have Sky F1 as part of the HD package, probably from so long ago they have forgotten about it. Am waiting for Sky to catch up with me (and the others who have this) but hope to hang onto it for as long as I can.
I was at Spa in 2008 when Hamilton was stripped of his win after the race. It was hugely frustrating to have celebrated a win then to be deflated like that so I'm not sure I would agree with the idea of handing out penalties after the race. Its not good for the fans. Despite what happens yesterday I'd like all decisions to be made in the race itself (unless maybe its a lap or two before the end). You wouldn't receive a penalty after a football game would you ? it makes no sense.
Even so, I think we were robbed of a thrilling end to the race. Hamilton knew he didn't have to get past Vettel, all he had to do was to maintain a sub 5 second gap. No risk in that. You could see LeClerc on a charge, but I wonder if he held back a bit on team orders not to compromise Vettels 2nd place. The more I watch this year the more it seems LeClerc is being sacrificed to give the team #1 a stab at the title. Lets hope they give up on that soon and allow them both the race each other.

Same a s Rich i wont pay for the the Sky f1 or Sky in general. I was listening to the commentary on 5live on the way back from Brands hatch yesterday and it was quite good, but saw some of the highlights on C4 when i got back
Vettel said he did see him but nothing he could of done lucky he didnt end up in the wall, He wouldnt of been able to brake on the grass it would of just locked up and slid and carrying that speed from the braking zone going wide on the grass pushed him wide on exit, my opinion Vettel started pushing and lost it under pressure ( again ). The swapping of the podium boards i thought was funny but suspect might get points on his licence for stopping the car at the start of the pit line and getting out
Hamilton did the correct thing to back out of it as it could of ended badly for both of them. that was going to be his only chance to get a win in Canada during what i saw and he said in a interview he didn't think he had the pace to take him only to keep up in places so that cockup by Vetel cost him dearly

I can watch on 10" Android under my f-i-l's subscription which I periodically negotiate down!
what you say Mike and Vettel once again makes a mistake under pressure.
As he says, he couldn't have done anything else in the split seconds but ...
Contrast Hamilton holding his nerve 2/3rds of the race at Monaco.
