the only way to make progress here is by undertaking

you should see the five lane stretch of the M25

two inside lanes deserted, the three outer rammed with people doing 60-75mph

I despair

Kind of why I welcome higher fuel prices.

The roads have been oddly quiet recently. When they're not down to one lane & gridlocked.

Petitions do no good; the only thing the narcissistic sociopaths cannot stand is parody & ridicule; I recently read a fascinating article about how political prisoners in the Soviet Union wrote so many letters of complaint, it jammed up the bureaucratic system and they HAD to make reforms in order to stop the humiliation. Some sort of YouTube camp parody of Cameron/Obama singing "oil sheikh" instead of "milkshake" & make it go viral?

What will it take for people to start rioting and striking on fuel duty?

Really boggles my mind how apathetic people are to being constantly bent over and shafted in tax.

It's inflation too; demand & politiciunts' dalliances are causing a spike in oil prices.

The British would sooner whinge than get off their lazy arses & do anything; everyone could've been a contender...

The fiat currency means hoi polloi will get a lot poorer yet; THEN the rioting will start.

So you cut the fuel taxes.
Where will you make up the shortfall?

I see the sentiment of the board which is traditionally TORY, is shifting already.
No resolve, thats the trouble with you middle Englanders!

You don't make it up, you stop wasting £billions on imigrants/benefit skanks/pointless wars & invasions/licking Americas bumhole/bailing out bankers and other countries

in fact if we did all that we could probably stop paying so much income tax too!

I wonder if this will help to increase sales of electric cars?

Alternate fuel vehicles (which I guess is electric) sales continue to increase, although they are tiny percentage of the market at 1.3%

Diesel car sales exceeded petrol car sales in the UK for the first time in 2011.

Happening here too. 40mph is the new 60mph. Does my head in.

I've stopped using the car to travel to work and instead walk to the bus stop and catch a bus. I've found I can now relax in traffic by letting someone else get stressed. I'll also maintain a level of fitness from walking. More importantly it's mean't that I now enjoy driving again when I do take the car out.

I know I'm lucky though to not be dependent on using the car day to day.

Unfortunately the OH will still drive everywhere

I paid 157.9ppl for diesel last week. This was during a thousand mile round trip to the Scottish highlands. No road captains up there, despite the price of fuel.

At the end of the day, hiking fuel prices up is the easiest way to generate income for the government rather than sorting out the real issues/problems that cut could costs.
