Guys,

I am considering my first motorbike for early next year, and currently the choices are completely uninformed, but stuff I fancy

Suzuki DRZ400SM, KTM 690 SMC, Husquavarna Concept

The sensible says suzuki, the funster says the 690, the wild says the concept bike, if it ever becomes a reality.

What do you think? I am not a fan of super sports, however, love the look of the triumpg 675 daytona

690 end of discussion. That is all. Fanks :-)

I went with 636 as 1000 is a bit much for a beginner. I didn't want to out grow the bike to soo and wantes to enjoy riding swifly and on a machine more capable than me.... my worry was that if I got a smaller bike, I would ride the larger 600-1000 like the smaller bike once I out grew it and id have to kind of relearn how to ride a big bike properly. Hope that makes sense... the 690 is a great bike.

How heavy are you and how tall are you though? The Ninja wasn't that bad TBF. The ZX-10 was amazingly comfy.

GSXR 750 is where it's at though. That thing is really nice and the Mrs liked it on the back too. I have booked my test ride, but may pop down to the dealer.

For me (6ft 15 stone) comfiest to least comfy:

GSXR 600/750
ZX-10R/GSXR 1000
CBR600RR/ZX636R/S1000RR
Panigale 899
Fireblade/Aprillia RSV4
2014 Daytona 675R
2006 Daytona 675
R6

The R6 was horrendous and a good way clear of the other bikes.

I've been riding on ice the past few days. Ironically it's the salt that tripped me up when I was overtaking there was a massive mound of it I hit. Bit of rear wheel slidey slidey, but nout too serious.

I'm sure it'll handle well/go fast, but I'm there to check out the comfort.

Nah, didn't drop it. I've had the back end run away several times now, enough that I'm comfortable with it.

The Suzuki test ride was good. The weather was garbage and the tyres refused to come upto temp at all so I had to keep lean angles at a minimum.

The bike is supremely responsive mind and over a nice level of feedback. The engine is beautifully smooth and pulls nicely from 6krpm all the way to 16krpm. Got upto 130+ leptons easily, but then had a high frequency helmet vibration which drastically impaired my vision so I backed off. The bike itself was nice and stable barring hitting cats eyes which really threw the bike - down to having no temp in the tyres.

Comfort was ok. My legs were a bit cramped, but I did have four layers of trouser (Thermal layer, tracksuit trousers, insulating layer and my outer textile layer). I did find that within about 30 mins I had gotten used to it.

Filtering is a joy with this bike as it's nice and narrow.

Gearbox is nice and short. Engages fine and feels good. Didn't test the slipper clutch because I always blip down the box. I'm sure it wrks fine! The clutch lever is nice and light compared to the Honda.

The brakes were sh1t. Pressure felt good, but the pads just didn't bite. The rear brake was a complete waste of time. I explained this to the Tech at the garage who said that it might have been the pads that were glazed. It's possible, but it was the worst aspect of the bike by a long way.

The bike made a nice noise and you really do get a good induction roar. Some people have said this is intrusive. It isn't at all.

I'd certainly consider getting one, but I need to see if the 750 is worth it. I didn't feel that the 600 lacked pace at all, but I might find the 750 better. Then again I might not hence riding both of them
