Default Getting hold of a helmet

I know the whys and wherefores of helmet purchase for trackdays has been done to death, but I thought it was time it was done again.

For my own selfish needs of course.

Does anyone know of any current bargains to be had - preferably in shops rather than internet/mail order as I'll want to try it on.
What brands are worth that bit more?
What differences are there between a

First thoughts are maybe try somewhere like GPW in Chiswick, or ask MarkB and do the opposite of what he says based on his current form.

GPR (Grand Prix Racewear, rather than Wacewear ) have a unit at Silverstone, which is a bit closer to Rob.

Bike shops tend to be cheaper though, and the helmets are the same in general. So unless you're buying all the kit, they're usually a better bet.

The more you pay, the better protection you're afforded in general.

I'm in London next week though Mark, so maybe a trip to Chiswick is in order.

I have a local bike shop which I visited before when I was trying to find out if I could fit in the beemer with one on.

Rob, make sure you do an HPI check on the helmet.

And that's why I mentioned GPR as I knew Rob was in town next week

Mark, much as I don't value your advice, can you let me know what you think about gloves/boots too?

Gloves I think are going to be a requirement for trackdays, but I doubt I'll wear them on the road unless it's winter.. will have to see how that works out.

Boots - safety aside, are they worth it over a decent pair of 'slim fit' trainers?

Spend as much as you can, and get one with Snell SA2000 (it's what the MSA require for motorsport), which (IIRC) is tougher than the equivalent BS6658.

Brands are similar in quality when you're paying plenty I think, get the one which offers the best fit and ventilation.
