also. MPS have warehouse near you... ad their sale is also on.

When you buy a lid, check the manufactured date. it's often recommended yo replace a lid eveyr 5 years, so ensure the one you buy isn't older than that.

btw - Fester has load of lids, he changes them for different bikes. why not ask him?

Went and had a look this morning. Lots of cheapo helmets by manufacturers I've nevery heard of.. Arashi? Caberg? They also had Suomy - who I have seen/heard of - but only up to XL. I'm borderline XXL I think. XL was ok, but wanted to try an XXL to see if it was more comfortable. The Suomy stuff wasn't in the sale either, so

Rob I think the key thing here is to foget safety, standards or whatever.

Go for the one with the biggest brightest colours and naff-est patterns on it.

Oh and the guy in the shop didn't know what Snell SA2000 was - looks like it applied pretty much to car/kart helments, not the bike ones. He just knew that they all have the Gold ACU mark on them, which they did.
I thought that Snell was the US equivalent of ACU.

Not sure, Snell is a standard required by the MSA (UK) and they don't accept ACU as a replacement standard?

Chin Spoilers - do they work?

Seen a couple of helmets in my sort of budget at GPR and one has a chin spoiler and one doesn't. I'm sure there are other differences too and I'll find out when I have a look at them later in the week.

Snell are the US safety accreditation authority, similar to ACU, but the Snell accrediatation is (supposedly) harder to pass. If you want to compete in any MSA sanctioned event, you have to have Snell SA2000. This has nothing at all to do with money, and the fact that in general bike helmets (without Snell) are cheaper, oh no, of course not, just like the rule about harnesses only being valid for 5 years, no matter how much they have been used etc. etc....

Chin spoilers - if you're driving something that allows air to get under your helmet (ooerrr) then a chin spoiler can help, but in most cars you have an aeroscreen or windscreen that sees air over your head.

Ta, I figured I may be a little bit higher up than your average midget sat behind an aeroscreen.

I also read some stuff about helmet lift (sounds kinda painful) at higher speeds, so might be tempted if it fits right.
