Golf R owners
It was a 335D a year back, then the M135i, now it's the Golf R. You all know there's a Golf R estate coming, don't you?
Guess what? Cars that do 0-60 in three seconds, 100mph in 8, top out at 200mph, are cheap to service, run on 165/13 tyres, do 70mpg, accrue zero road tax, handle like an F1 car, cosset like a Phantom, don't depreciate, transform into mpv/sportscar/estate/hatch/off roader/track day special/amphibious vehicle/limousine/minibus at the touch of a button, do not exist, irrespective of how much money you have.
Accept the compromises in one car or buy several. Why is this so fecking difficult to comprehend and why can't people accept that one person wouldn't be seen dead in another person's 'all the car you need in the real world'? Answering my own question, I suppose it can only be down to profound stupidity, purchase justification, or both.
That wasn't aimed at anyone in particular. I just didn't have anyone around to say it to.

Whilst I appreciate manufacturers tailor engine maps to accommodate the many, often competing objectives, of efficiency, drivability, noise, emissions, etc., they do have at their disposal the very best R&D and software engineers. I wouldn't want to compromise this expertise with some hacked code by a metaphorical 'fiddler with a laptop'.

Alot of us go through a blind phase were power is thought as better than handling/fun.
This delusion breeds on Pistonheads - and spills into forum threads.
I've owned quite a few motorbikes over the years and the most fun are the smaller engine light weight bikes that you can use all the power on so I'm with you on this

I was looking on the babybmw forum and you have to laugh - there's been a spate of people changing their M135is (presumably at great loss but it's PCP so who cares...) citing things like "lacks sense of occasion" or "lacks driver involvement" - FFS it's not a Ferrari or a Porsche or a Lotus or even a proper M car, it's a hot hatch, what did they expect! One chap sought more "involvement" in a Mercedes A45 of all things. Sadly as is often the case these days, most of the posts on there seem to based on some regurgitated twaddle the poster has read on the internet than real life experience...lots of talk of on limit handling etc. which I suspect most have only experienced on a Playstation...
I have two cars, a turbo s2000 and my remapped 335d they are both excellent cars and different they do what I want them to do.
The 335d can achieve comfort, great Mpg and be very quick when I want it to be regardless of what anyone says I think it's great very happy with it.
Can you have everything in a car for some people yes but for me no.

Everything in a car is impossible. Try the tip run in a thoroughbred track weapon. Not happening.
Oh there is always 150 brake tdis, oh yes, they do everything ever possible on God's green earth.

Above anything I long to own an Integra Type R (DC2) - top of my wish list. It might not be the best car in the world but for FWD involvement and as a Sunday plaything, it's got character and handling a-plenty. Rusty buggers now but I need one!
