Not exactly clear but the thin orange/red lines are the 86 and the thick lines the F20C S2000. Even with the weird power dip in the middle the 86 has more power and torque up to 6250.

ha ha

when I did a caterham drift day recently it did make me think tail happy cars are silly fun. these cars were setup to drift, soft front, hard back and were great fun.

the improvement Litchfield claim is pretty stark, 0-60 in sub 5s

That's very interesting, Dave.

The extra strength across the range makes it feel more like a 2.2 Prelude or something - you do just miss the surge of being able to drive it in the zone and just bounce off the rev warning instead.

Also needs better tyres; the McP jacking/jouncing is never gonna feel as precise as the double-wishbones, but I think the soggy-froggy sidewalls on the Michelins do rob it of some precision. Actual grip is fantastic, though.

It kind of sits below the S2000 in price point/quality, but could be easily-riced to a level where Caymans etc start to look a bit crap.

I took a friend in his GT86 on his first track day last month. Had a passenger ride and you could feel the back end shifting all over the show but in a really fun and predictable way. His driving wasn't great and wouldn't have been forgiven in the S, but the 86 dealt with it nicely.

It's a fun car for sure. Amusingly, he came home and pinged me a link to the Cosworth upgrade he was now getting

The first one I test drove was a TRD with the 18" wheels and Yokohama something tyres (not AD08s) and one of the things that impressed me was how sharp everything felt, and especially the feedback through the wheel compared to the S2000 (always a bit numb). This one with the Primacy tyres felt a lot more rubbery, though despite the reputation of Prius tyres didn't seem to be lacking grip. No desire for 18s, but I'm sure I'll end up going back to Bridgestone as I always do on every car. Same size as the front of the S, so RE002s.

McPhearson struts is the only slightly disappointing thing from an engineering nerd point of view. With the engine so low, surely there would have been plenty of room for an upper wishbone.

I'm following this thread with interest and I'm curious why more people are buying the Toyota and not the Subaru ?

There's more of the GT86s and they're cheaper. There's a lot more dealers, and the GT86 comes with a 5 year manufacturer warranty (i.e. I still have 2 1/2 years left) compared to 3 years on the BRZ. And finally the GT86 has Toyota's touch screen audio system whereas the BRZ comes with a push button radio cassette from a 1981 Ford Orion Ghia.

The BRZ does look slight better. It has a "moustache" on the front which makes the front grill look less gaping, and a faux vent on the front wings instead of the naff GT86 boxer emblem. And only the BRZ comes in Subaru Blue, which looks stunning.

I remember seeing a prototype convertible GT86 in white at the Goodwood Fos back in 2013 - very nice.
