I did a load of number crunching and guess work based on what people were complaining about but short of getting elbows deep in an engine there was little I could do.
Last I heard Honda were saying it was normal
AFAIK Honda fixed every car with a problem for free using various methods. Nothing was ever made public, presumably because it affected so few cars (at least in the grand scheme of Honda worldwide sales).

Sounds about right. There'd be no reason to make anything much public. Cheers for that. Good to know they were fixed.

Will have to start daydreaming about what car I'll have when I get shot of the Yaris now

Stepping out of it, after a blat and looking around it - the thing just doesn't float my boat. I like the mx5 better. I think the interior was something Toyota rushed, and there's too much focus on the car wearing silly slippy tyres to have "fun". But I give it respect on the road, it's a good car, no doubt about that.
As a commuter, I prefer the Golf's. Extremely reliable in every ownership I've had since the mk4.
The Subaru pedal box is too widely-spaced; one needs to instal a wider go pedal cover, in order to heel & toe it correctly.

Also, use of a 20s graphicy-designy twat means the analogue sPeado is illegible for the middle-aged. And taller drivers need the optional arm rest.

But the height-adjustable seat and adjustable column are where it does piss all over the S2000's driving position.

It really shows how awful most modern car are, despite their allegedly woodier plastic.

I struggle with the driving position to be honest. I've tried it lots of different ways and can never quite get comfortable, and feel it's a bit too upright compared to the S2000. Being able to adjust the wheel is fantastic, but I'm typically too close to the pedals or too far from the gear lever, or sitting too low, or if I raise the seat it feels like I'm sliding forwards. Perhaps after 9 years my spine is permanently deformed to fit the S2000 seats and I'm doomed to never be comfortable in a car again.

I had to adjust the clutch pedal because the bite point is way too high as standard, and have the pedal cover Nick mentioned to make H&T easier. The other issue is that the DBW throttle gives you 100% power in the first half inch of travel; that and the default clutch position makes it a very clumsy car to drive slow. I haven't had so much trouble since I was 17. Maybe this is what people want these days. At least the brakes feel good and aren't stupidly over assisted as with a lot of modern cars.

I'm on RE002s now and it's miles better. Slides around all over the place, but in a controllable way. Loads of fun. And given the grip level I can't imagine wanting more power. Which is kind of the point.

But my favourite thing is still the proper rev counter.

Have you washed its gizzard out, Dembo? The butterfly 'twanging' on all the coke in there could start a hurricane...it had got undriveable.

The problem with the seat is exactly the same as with the BYS rail in the S2000; the leading edge of the cushion is way too low. I think I'd recommend a load of body washers round the front bolts.

Crank thrust bearings fitted the wrong way round was what i heard.

As most recently found in Buggyofmilddiscomfort's engine when he opened it up.

I'd forgotten that, thanks. Can't find anyone else with the problem though; typically you can find someone for everything on the FT86 forum.

Actually I think it's too high, at least compared to where the pedals are. But yes if you "raise" the seat all it does is tilt you forward.

A lot of people complain about jerkiness, but I think my fix fell on deaf feet. It did make a huge difference, even though it doesn't havve the F20C's throttle response. Some say re-mapping helps.

I think the seat is closer to the deck in the 86 at its lowest point then in the stock S2000, which is where I like to be. It could be the nap on the Alcantara, but I tend to keep falling off too. Might have to get some of those washers and take my own medicine.

But overall, the driving position is soooo much better than a hatchback built off an SUV/MPV plank, it's down to nitpicking. One thing I really like is that if you don't like the 86, there are so many options to rebuild it the way you want.

Bizarre.
