You hate Vag Nick. I can only conclude you are either asexual or of carpers ilk haha
I agree completely though, anything with less than 150bhp/ton is a bus/tube/cab/uber/train alternative
Which is why i want a self driving one with cinema system and reclining seats (and tinted winda's for a wafty crank)

Been reading this thread as a fancy a change of wheel this year.

1) It has to have an intake and valvetrain that compensates for this
2) It can have a 25% smaller gear ratio and thus actual torque is the same

I have been blatting around in a MK2 MX5. It's lots of fun. It has no power, the geo needs sorting and the seats are designed for someone no bigger than 5ft tall, but it's a laugh.
The engine is eager, the gearshift is ok, and I slide about lots.
People who complain about the GT86 power output just don't get it. It definitely has enough go.
Yes, if dual/motorway drag races are you're thing you'll get walloped by pretty much any diesel barge. But then if you did care, you'd be in said diesel barge.
I just couldn't stomach spending £15k on one. Yeah, £15k - they seem to be very much on the rise in value!
Indeed; the Yaris Hybrid actually moves OK (that e-torque everyone won't stop banging on about) and has a pleasant engine sound. Unlike those 3-Cyl Giftgaswagen.
The HSDs total disconnect between throttle & anything mechanical mean there is no real throttle steer available and the typically-Toyota under-steering is bereft of life. So you just go from A-B painlessly, wondering if it's a bit like a bottle of pills and a warm bath...
PS - although the term 'wafty crank' made me laugh, it's probably still too soon to use for the sensibilities of '09 owners on this site!

Having sat behind the wheel of my friends GT86, I can confirm it's driving position is simply superb.
Stepping out of it, after a blat and looking around it - the thing just doesn't float my boat. I like the mx5 better. I think the interior was something Toyota rushed, and there's too much focus on the car wearing silly slippy tyres to have "fun". But I give it respect on the road, it's a good car, no doubt about that.
As a commuter, I prefer the Golf's. Extremely reliable in every ownership I've had since the mk4.

The Yaris is going to be purely about getting around at reasonable cost and zero effort
With the works scheme I get more money off on hybrids and a healthy chunk off on the higher model.
It will cost me the same to have the top of the range hybrid Yaris as the bottom of the range and the hybrid will give me a cheap car to run as well.
I looked at a very base model polo on a commercial pcp and it wasn't quite twice the price per month
My plan longer term plan is to either stay on the works loan car scheme (I can have one Auris hybrid for a bit more per month than I'll be paying on the Yaris with most costs included) for the time being but when finances allow maybe go for something more exotic again.

Very good Graves but all the 09 owners have left in a huff as we chatter about their hand grenade engines
I must admit Nex i did enjoy a mk1, 1.6 but knew i'd tire quickly of the lack of grunt given ovetaking is so often needed to get some clear road. Plus i've been reading Evo over xmas and need 350bhp.
Err
Anyway, back to the wank box, when can i order it or i'll have to find a fookin bike

Was there any resolution to the 09 "crisis"?
I did a load of number crunching and guess work based on what people were complaining about but short of getting elbows deep in an engine there was little I could do.
Last I heard Honda were saying it was normal
