Actually, I wear a baseball cap in the S2000 and sports gear when playing sports at the gym.

I've suddenly realised that if I combined the two outside, I could have one of the new GT-Rs. Those black ones are nice and the interior less crap than the old ones.

Hmmm.

Might wait for the Acura. If you're gonna be stupid, be bloody stupid...

depends if you want something that will do most of the driving for you?

somehow I don't think you will......

I can see why people are in denial about how much of the speed these things can carry is down to the machinery

and if you've grown up with modern cars with all the aids, even more so

not for me though, bit like Sub's Z4M post, I like the idea of having to get hold of the thing, drive it right, and take my punishment if I screw it up

that's why I liked the 348 so much, and also explains why so many people didn't

flattery is very, very powerful

I'd still prefer one over a 360, which is anodyne in comparison, even though it is much faster

the 355 is close to perfect (for me), even though it's slower than a GTR

then there are the looks

My recent test driving exploits revealed that the Cayman S is one dull, dull car unless you are going at speeds which mean you won't have a licence for long. I suspect that the GTR will be similar.

That's why I love the S2000 so much, it has to be driven, the NSX even moreso.

Apart from the odd pitching on bumps, the 911's the same.

My main criticism of the GTR is it's hugely heavy and exceeds my self-imposed 1.5 tonne mass limit by some considerable margin.

I therefore consider the Jaguar (and Acura) as more advanced.

I too, like the 'aliveness' of the S2000 and NSX (although as a hack, such aliveness can become tiresome) and regard the big coupes as fulfilling a different role.

As with an Evostick, immensely capable doesn't necessarily mean dull.

You're talking about race cars.

There may be some overlap but racing cars and sports cars are not the same thing.

Sports cars are about fun, race cars are about winning.

If the technology makes it quicker without taking away the fun then all's good but if it detracts from the fun then you haven't got a sports car anymore.

It all depends on how you get your fun though...

interesting because while i would happily debate the GTR with Gad I am with him on the involvement front

i drove a lot of cars before buying the S, it was by no means the fastest but it felt great. i drove a couple of very quick scoobies and they were not as much fun, though in one case massively faster than the S

I aspire to a TVR rather than a GTR on that basis, despite all it's likely foibles.. but i've avoided driving one purely because i'm not in the market for a new car atm and don't want to tempt myself.

high speed can give a certain satisfaction

and I like speed

but to me, it's not the same as extracting performance from something much slower and less forgiving
