Default A Gulf too far?

A few months ago we were talking about an Elise that had been painted in the iconic Gulf racing colours, and the common consensus was that unless you had a GT40 or 917k then the colours didn't work.

I saw this on PH earlier, Aston Martin 009, where it goes on to say that Aston Martin will run their factory DBR9's in the Gulf colours as a tribute this year.

I'm not sure I like the scheme on the Aston, sure it'll be great PR, but the traditionalist in me thinks that it would have looked a lot better on one of the Porsche Spyders or other prototypes.

No, we're racing at Brands the weekend of Le Mans, so going to the Classic instead.

From a designers point of view, that light blue and orange will never really stand out no matter what you spray it on. The blue is too - that's my personal point-of-view kicking in, too.

I think my point is that of all the sporty colours they could use on a car, light blue isn't one that gets my juices flowing. Gimme 10 minutes. I'll show you what I mean. I hope...
