Default Had to laugh...

I saw a Golf R32 driving through Wakefield late last night...The rear window was all crudded up and someone little chav had written "VTEC RAPER" into the muck....The crazy part was that he was toying with a Pug 106 on fairly icy roads...Arse!

Anyone know how the R32 stacks up to the S?

MK4 OR 5?

I had a MK 4 as a company car a few years ago, it was quite a capable car and would murder an S on slippy roads, but on dry tarmac the S IMO would have the edge, had a go with a MK5 not so long back, in a straight line not much in it.

Sorry, I couldn't make out what Mk it was. It looked new (ish) though.

I used to own a Mk IV R32 and indeed it was a very capable car but IMHO the 'S' is definately the quicker in the dry and on the straights.

A friend has a 55 Reg ( Mk V ) R32 with DSG and when he bought it, we tested it against my 'S' down a very long private straight stretch of road on an industrial estate one sunday evening last summer.

We took two turns each and I managed a best of 92mph on one of my runs. He managed approximately 89/90mph as his best run. Doesn't prove much but it was a bit of fun and I am pretty sure the 'S' is marginally quicker then the Mk V R32 too.

I wish I had one of these long straight private roads everybody else seems to have by them.

I have to break the law instead.

Yes, he was a fool; those little Pugs will make mincemeat of most cars on an icy road.

Mind you, I know someone who aquaplaned an R32 into a tree onn a housing estate & nearly made mincemeat of himself.

I test drove one the other day. Wasn't really blown away by it. Didn't feel any faster. It had the dsg box in it. I think i'd take the manual any day.

Got back into the S and immediatly felt at home and in control, even though the R32 is undoubtedly more sure footed in this weather.

The reason, if you're wondering, why i took a test drive in the R32, well, via her indoors, i also have the pleasure of driving a mk5 golf gti. I have to say that in crappy conditions it's an absolutly brilliant drive. I wouldn't dream of driving as hard in the s2000. It's also nice to be able to appreciate the difference between the turbo and NA. I've decided i like both!! So i tried the r32, but i think i'd take the GTI if i had to make a choice, possible the edition 30.

Is it wrong to feel guilty having flirted with another car!! I feel as if i've been unfaithful to the S! I'll buy it some new oil or something, that'll keep it her happy....ahem.

S2000 wins
