I owned a mk 4 straight after my s2k for just over a year and it was faster over most roads. On smooth roads the s2k seemed no faster around corners. Excellent car.

I would say the R32 is probably easy to drive faster than the S2000 but it just weighs too much and that was my underlying feeling when I ran one for a while, it was quick and very usable but I just don't remember it being faster than an S2000.

TBF it was a well specced car with an awesome noise, ride was very hard though but much more potential for mile crunching than the S2000, out and out performance I'm not sure.

Good value for money IIRC 22.5K ish although they did command a decent premium when they first came out.

I think the R32 would ceratinly be much quicker in the current weather and in the dry, would probably also be easier to drive faster.. but that doesnt mean more fun of course!

I actually had a trip over the A57 from Sheffield to Manchester at the weekend and as i was picking some friends up from the airport, i was in my Passat 2.0TDI. The Passat was entertaining, if only for the fact that i went over the Snake in slippy conditions far faster than i would have dared in the S! It was sunday driver heaven, some cars doing 27mph and i blasted past the lot of them!! Just waiting to have the Passat remapped in the next couple of weeks so should be up to around 185bhp then which should make for some swift progress!

Was that tongue in cheek Russ?
No its absolutly true, down a highway not far from Si2000's abode.

Of course the road was closed for private hoon use at the time.

Come on Russ a V6 4 motion is only mildly quick, nothing at all like an S2000 or R32, driven dozens of them.

Strangly enough the rarer Bora was much better than the golf but only 204 bhp and a lardy suit!

Against a 4Motion Golf and Bora (both lads at work) your car won just.

Actualy I remember a 106 GTI too, same result.

Tut tut...And there's me thinking you'd never floored my S!

A 106 GTI left me for dead on the tight twisties going up the hill towards Holme Moss (from the Glossop end) during the summer. He obviously knew the road very well, and I was/am still getting used to the S in those conditions. I managed to gain a lot of ground on the straight bits though!

Jim,

Did you go over the Snake on Saturday 8th Dec - Late (ish) afternoon?

Reason I ask is that I was driving that road at that time and I seem to recall seeing a car overtaking me and about 6 or 7 other closely spaced cars in some very dubious places - Places which I'd think twice about overtaking on in dry summer conditions, never mind cold, damp and potentially icy conditions! Overtaking on blind corners and generally driving with seemingly suicidal tendancys given the conditioins!

Can't remember the make/model of the car...But me and my mate who was with me at the time almost shat ourselves as he almost had a head on smash on a blind corner!

If you were there...Did you see him too?

Interesting comparison here! The 'S' it seems is comfortably quicker in terms of out and out pace and has a slight edge overall on track performance.
