When I spend money on something, I like to get some tangible benefit from it.

If I spend some dosh on go-faster bits I generally get to go-faster when the mood takes me.

Last week I taxed the Honda. Now as far as I can tell (from the fillings I've lost down our potholed and knackered roads), I don't feel like I have had any benefit from that money.

Today I got a couple of new rear tyres fitted.
