I do about 45k business miles and 10k personal per annum and due to this it'sno wonder I've nae hair, if standards were appalling I reckon it would be a big improvement. More plod on the roads required.

But then plod actually needs to do something too

I overtook a police car on the A3 through Guildford yesterday, speed limit is 50 and I did maybe 55 to not look like I was in a hurry, all was fine but they didn't seem to care about the Volvo x90 that I had up my rear bumper trying to push me out of the way...

I think this is also a function of numbers. The fewer there are, the more 'minor' infringements get filtered out of their responses, as the they have to prioritise the serious stuff. That, and fulfil in their ridiculous paperwork burden.

No.

I'm sick of hearing the Police saying numbers force them to prioritise. Welcome to the real world fellas.

As long as they have time to knock on doors about Facebook complaints, ridiculous 'hate crimes' or act like this:

They won't be getting too much sympathy from me.

The above three examples are of course examples of prioritisation.

Perhaps it's the criteria that need to be examined, not the Police numbers?

I didn't say they prioritised them correctly! But the point still stands imo.

Accepted, but we all have to prioritise.

Anyone that posts on this forum prioritises that action above something else.

We can't have a situation where the Police don't prioritise, any more than you can in the MOD or NHS.

Clearly someone decides the kind of examples I posted are more important than policing driving standards - I guess the issue is who sets those priorities and what are they?

Just had a good laugh at this thread. There are obviously issues driving in the UK with a proportion of useless retards driving. But guys, you aint seen NOTHING untill you have driven in this fair country!
There is no minimum tyre tread depth
There are no drink driving laws
There is no MOT type test
There is no mobile phone ban while driving
Driving 1" from the car in front is the default
Overtaking on either side on dual carriageway is permitted
And not to mention the total retards that drive the blue buses, the yellow buses and the ZR route taxis!!!
I could go on but just think of this. you can have an accident while driving pissed out of your skull while texting, have bald tyres and no brake lights but be perfectly legal. Woe betide you if you don't wear your seat-belt though!!!

Add to that the increasing number of distractions for drivers ... last weekend I witnessed 2 drivers on busy roads making right turns whilst texting on their iPhones.

These people need to be removed from the roads.

Agreed. A 12 month ban should sort it and raise a few bob in the process.

Amen to that. I've had the dubious pleasure of driving in Bangkok, Istanbul and Delhi. . and as for Paris... its not driving, its an excercise in self-preservation.
I'm planning on hiring a car when in Tehran in a few weeks...thats likely to add a few more grey hairs. I will report back....

but wholehartedly agree with most sentiments on here. I have certainly noticed a decline in UK driving standards since I passed my test back in the day when that actually meant something. to me it corrolates directly to the decrease in general politeness in society. I cant even remember the last time someone was nice enough to let me out of a junction.
