Government advisers are pushing for changes in the civil law that will make the most powerful vehicle involved in a collision automatically liable for insurance and compensation purposes.
Yet they say that if a cyclist hits a pedestrian, the cyclist is at fault.

How does a Cyclist have more power than a pedestrian?

Ahhh, that's right, physics doesn't exist in politics, just bollics

It works in Holland because;

a) Many more people cycle than here, there is infrastructure for them to do so in the cities (dedicated cycleways, not white lines along main roads) and drivers are far more aware at the points at which bikes and cars meet.
b) There is a 'sanity check' that allows the people enforcing the rule to throw out the 'ride my bike into the path of soulcrew's Holdall VX so I can get a new one' types and allow the car driver to go free.

Which is why it wouldn't work over here

I came up behind a cylist this morning coming home from work.

There were double white lines and he was doing 20mph.

I waited until the double white lines ended and gave him a wide berth before I overtook him (NSL).

In all fairness, there wouldn't be many car drivers that would do that, hell many wouldn't even slow down!!

When I used to bike to work, Wagon drivers made it a sport to see how close they'd get!

But I have also encountered cyclists that don't signal (or signal by lifting their hand 1/2" off the handle bar), wobble about, position their bike on the wrong side of the road an d then throw out coffee beans to other unfortunate drivers because of their telepathetic skills.

Again, points to 'sanity' / 'common sense' for a solution so we are doomed.

Hitler was sort of elected democratically!

More so than Brown anyway.
