Driver Suzanne Cordeau was feeling a little 'fuelish' yesterday after she lost control of her car at a petrol station and destroyed a diesel pump before rolling the vehicle over.
Mrs Cordeau, 82, was attempting to manoeuvre her Toyota Starlet closer to a pump at a Texaco garage when she accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake.

Old people in tight spaces - always a liability.
We had to take my Grandfather's car off him after he rear-ended his 3rd car at traffic lights. He had glaucoma and couldn't see out of one eye, so couldn't judge distances. Add to that the reactions of a sloth on tranquilisers and it was only a matter of time before he ran someone over on a crossing.
Then a couple of weeks ago, my neighbour had his Clio written off by an 85 year old in a Volvo estate on a garage forecourt in the same way as the clip above - old boy manoevering, slips, car shoots off, bounces off my neighbours car, another car, out onto the A4, off another car and across the pavement into a garden wall.
Dread to think how hard it must be to give up driving as you get older though, I can't imagine ever being in the position where I don't have the faculties anymore.

still a few things I'd like to own first
it must be difficult though
things (including cars) do get faster as people get older
old people (like me) in very fast cars are the most dangerous
and autos - they are a factor in a LOT of accidents involving old people
I got called to a petrol station the other day after two blokes in a white van came off the slip road too quickly going head first into a petrol pump and then the pillar of the garage. They both managed to jump clear jut as the petrol pump caught fire. Luckily for them neither suffered serious injury and were able to be discharged at the scene. The outcome could have been so much worse

I visited the ATM at my nearby parade of shops and all the glass and brickwork around it was damaged and boarded up. I asked in the shop if thieves had tried to make off with the ATM, only for them to tell me that it was in fact an old boy who'd reversed at full tilt into the shop. Bearing in mind it's one way and parallel parking only in front of the shops, I though that deserved full marks ...
