I'm doing so many miles that I need to get a cheap heap for the daily grind to work before either the miles kill my S, or the depreciation kills me. I'm limiting myself to

We have a Micra beater, cant go wrong.
Bought as a CAT D years ago, was so cheap to use I couldn't bring myself to sell it.

In six years, only changed the battery! It never failed to start every single day and makes nearly 50mpg if you are careful.

I like the Yaris if I were buying again now.

Yep, I've got a big soft spot for Micras - my mum had an '85 B reg from new. She gave it to me in '93 when the folks moved away.

My wife promptly nicked my Golf GTI and left me with the Nissan - I thrashed it mercilessly, never bothered servicing it, got it stuck in a 4 car shunt etc. etc. It looked like sh1t but it never died.

The Golf, meanwhile, had 2 new gearboxes, a PAS rack, countless new door handles and more electrical faults than I care to remember.......

Fiat are not so bad, i had a 1600 punto sporting it was a hoot to drive
fiat dealers leave a lot to be desired though
best beater i had was a twinspark alfa 155, paid 900 for it ran it 18 months without issue and sold it for 750
go down to some of the garages and see what they have in on part ex, most of em just send the cheap ones of to auction and take a chance if you wave 500 under their nose you could get a bargain
