Does anyone know how long your NCD stays with you if you don't renew for a period of time?

Is there a maximum time limit?

This seems to be at the discretion of the company concerned.

I know the AA for instance will accept car NCB for up to a year with a valid proof.

Admiral are a bit more cut throat in my experience.

Bikes seem to differ again and certainly some companies will accept up to 2 years since you had active insurance.

I'd heard 3 years, but this is unsubstantiated speculation only

Would any of you keep a vehicle without insurance for a few months if you weren't using it?

SORN and no insure a beater may be but more likely sell, but would SORN a decent car (e.g. S) and keep relevant insurance on it for theft purposes. Can't remember the term for this insurance but it basically acknowledges you are not driving it but are wanting to keep it, there may be certain conditions e.g. where kept depending on car in question IIRC
