Insurance
Further to my nano-rant a while ago about the renewal cost for my Prius insurance, here's another example of why we're paying through the nose...
A chap in my village has had his 51 plate Subaru Forrester hit in the rear. The accident management company (who no doubt 'bought' the introduction from his insurer) have put him in a new Land Rover Discovery HSE as a courtesy car. My guess is the rental on this will cost more than the repairs - or indeed the value - of his Subaru.
It will be no surprise who will be paying for the (inflated) Disco' rental and the claims management cost...

Depending on condition and mileage a 51 plate Forester is worth £3,000 tops. New rear door, bumper, rear panels, lights, etc at notoriously expensive Subaru parts rates would soon get close to or exceed that.
As you say, renting an HSE at what £130/day or so doesn't make economic sense.
Depends on the size of the 'hit in the rear'.
