Default Insurance advice

Sold car A (new owner collects in a week)
Car B does not arrive for a month

Being given the use of car c for the interim.

Car A currently insured and needs to be cancelled when it is collected.

We need to insure car c until car b arrives. Are we permitted to keep car a insurance and rely on that (telling the insurer we now have temp car c and car b will arrive in 4 weeks

Or

Do we cancel current car a insurer, buy temp car b insurance for a month, then buy car c insurance.

Simply, how do you insure a loan car for a month whilst you wait for a new car to arrive.

Call the insurer is the best advice, they'll adjust cover accordingly (usually for an outrageous admin fee).

So long as you own(i.e have an insurable interest in) car C you'll be fine. If someone is lending it to you, then they need to add you to their cover.

Cancelling any motor insurance is usually an expensive business so best avoided if possible.

Colin

I think the answer is A.

If you were going straight from Car A to Car B you would tell the insurer and they would just change the car insured and if there was any difference in the premium ask you for a cheque. Can't think there should be any difference because Car C intervenes for a few weeks. Just tell your insurer.

Cheers all. Car c is a loaner from work so I suppose I need to get them to sort that.

Yes, that's right.

As for the A to B transition, talk to your insurer and explain the gap. They will deal with this sort of thing all the time.
