Default Interesting article about car theft

At least half of all thefts in the London area involve no breaking in, just electronics. I had recent experience of this but fortunately I have the habit of using a Disclok whenever I leave the car - which Disclok now bears the scars of a failed attempt to force it. Still works fine.

Very worrying. Seems a old steering wheel lock may be the difference between a successful quick theft or not.

I understand how they are getting in to cars and then starting cars with keyless entry systems or dash keys (BMW etc)...

But.. are they starting cars with standard ignition keys so quickly once they have gained access using scanning tools(if at all?) How are they disabling normal, non electronic steering locks etc?

I need to find the OBD2 port on my daily are move it somewhere less accessible

Thanks Nottm, Winfreak.

Yes the M3, which gets lots of looks unlike the Pensioner Blue one I had before. Disklok just had a couple of 30mm 1mil deep scars showing shiny metal instead of the grey finish. Actually I only noticed them a couple of weeks later so it was not at all obvious really. I guess they had only the electronic tools, possibly a screwdriver or a 44 Magnum - but they didn't leave any drips of icecream
