Default steering feels loose

so the car was off and i wanted to check my tire tread. i turn the key into the on position so i can turn the wheels with the car off and not have the steering wheel lock up. so i drive my car a couple days after and the steering feels loose, not as tight. anyone know what happened? is turning the wheel with the car off bad? let me know thanks!

turning the wheel with the car off is not bad. If so, why would they design the steering lock to make you do exactly that. You have to turn the wheel while the car is off to lock it.

check your tire pressure.

not sure what u meant by the second sentence, seems like it contradicted your first. but anyhow, im just concerned because the steering felt loose compared to the last time i drove it. so turning the wheel with the car off is NOT bad? anyone else can chime in?

The steering system is designed in such a way that should the engine quit while driving, the driver retains the ability to control the car. The link from the steering wheel to the rack is not just electrical, but mechanical as well.. just like a regular fluid powered system. What you did to your car would not cause "loose" steering. I think something else is amiss and it's a coincidence that it happened when it did.

my second sentence illustrates how the designers of our car made is necessary to turn the steering wheel while the car is OFF to engage the steering lock, thus implying that unassisted steering input would cause no damage to the system that controls the directional inertia of your automobile.

NO, turning the wheel while the car is off does nothing besides turn the wheels while the car is off

我帶音你,這個事真沒有問題。 我不知道你今年多大, 可是這樣的東西是一個 《從古以來的》 情況。

Just trying to be clear, as it seems you are asking for other opinions as to whether or not this type of activity could be detrimental to your autocarriage's performance. IT IS NOT.
