I've had a couple from private firms (one on a Motorcycle, even though they didn't provide a dedicated M/C bay). I gave them a damn good ignoring. They like to write nasty letters, however 18 months later they haven't recieved a penny

However, AFAIK if it is issued by a Council Parking Attendant, the rules are different and you have to pay up.

As for feeling guilty about the other numpties over-parking, why didn't they just park in the next bay over within the lines. No need to feel guilt for other people's stupidity.
We have the same nasy letters from a private parking firm. The current letter says something like "if you ignore this we will have no option but to consider taking you to court".

No option to consider

If it's a proper fine then it is harder, but not impossible to argue and in the end not pay the fine.

I got one of these and just ignored it. No further contact ensued, that was over a year ago.

I wonder how much money car parking companies made when the snow thawed and cars were seen to be parked no where near the marked parking bays?

weirdly i saw a DVLA clamping van just as the snow started melting enroute to work one morning.
pulled out of a side road, 40yards further he pulls over behind some parked cars......

****ers. the lot of 'em! (or atleast the ones who have no common sense and will clamp if your number plate bolts stick out over the yellow line)

it was a council car park and he (my son) says he was in a hurry and didn't realise he was over-parked.

Parking tickets are, of course, a money making council scam. This is only going to get worse as they introduce the VCR parking checks. This will save them the money of paying a warden and you won't know you have a committed the heinous crime until the letter drops through your letter box.

The frigging council is supposed to provide a bloody service to to the community not be its frigging nemesis!

am I missing something? is it me?

Good point.

What about SPECS cameras?

Again today all the road signs were illegible as covered in snow on the M4.

Good get-out?

IDEA.

Is it illegal to park a car in a parking bay with no number plates on show?
