Leasing car is pretty good if you are only doing <10k miles and want a mainstream car. In fact, even performance cars can be had leasing too.

Stear clear of the mainenance and budget yourself - they always charge more and it's not really needed on a new car.

Balloons - you can't negotiate with lease companies, this tends to only be available when you PCP.

Leasing is popular with company car drivers because more and more companies do not want to manage their own fleet or even to manage outsourcing running a fleet.

Instead they can pay the employee in cash and leave all the hassle to them.

For the employee's part they get a sum with which to purchase and maintain a car. This is where the lease comes in. Most company car programmes have certain stipulations e.g.

Adequate boot space
Reliable, in good condition, new or nearly new.

I am on my 4th PCP lease and have always just handed back the keys after 3 years. As for mods, my only experience was Honda with my S2000, I knew I wanted an HKS exhaust etc from new when I got mine, so I got the dealer to do it and bundled the price in with my lease and had no problems at hand back time.

For my SLK 350, I was buying new, so I had little space to negotiate on price, but the dealer did match the APR on the repayments with a lease quote from an independent, I actually reduced the monthly payments by about
