Default Lexus IS-F

Potentially a cheap IS-F might become available or me to put a bid in on (ex press demonstrator from Toyota. The ones they give to journo's to try out)

Would you buy if it did?

For a start it's a press car so likely to have been thrapped but since it's a press car also likely to have been serviced above and beyond what a normal car would get.

I'm thinking it'll all depend on how cheap and how that cost relates to an equivalent M3

Any comments/suggestions?

It would be entirely price dependent. List is 50k

I wouldn't pay more than 30k to be honest.

I have a sneaking suspicion it might be in the low to mid-30's (seems like the price for a 1 year old low mileage one is around 40k.

At that price I think it may well be worth it. It's on a par with the M3 (although everything I read says the M3 edges it just), it's something a bit different and it's a lexus so it'll be pretty solidly built.

Hmmmmm

there's one for sale at a dealer with only 5k miles for 39....

parts and servicing won't be cheap (at a guess)

It'd be worth a punt, an interesting car, although I have my doubts about the 8 speed gearbox. Or is my memory faulty about that?

I think it's sub current M3.

Before you take the punt, you really should try an E46 M3. I can give you a pax ride one evening next week if you want, I'm in Telford/Wolves during the week.

No, it is an 8 speeder.
It's a bit of an oddity when compared to the M3. It always gets beaten by M3's in short tests but they rave about it in the longer term stuff.

Don't worry too much about giving me a ride. If it looks like I'm going that way I'll probably just go to the local dealers. Cheers anyway

Whilst I'd tend to agree, you may find it depends on your driving style

The Lexus is rare, but I would not want

No

The car makes no sense. It weighs 2120kgs.

I'd have the top dog lexus for sure-lovely car and it has a purpose-that is to cruise around in luxury with reasonable performance.
