Popped into a local private college yesterday to have a look round a classic car show. Thought I'd share the photos.
By the time the Doris and I got there a few cars had left, but there was a nice mix of cars still on display. The 6 series BMW was very striking, as was the cream E-Type and Lotus F1 car
I really like classics, my Dad restores them for a (expensive) hobby. I've done my fair share of classic car shows as a kid, hated them at the time but have fond memories now.
My Dad has got a restored TR5, a frogeye that is nearly finished and used to own what was reputed to be the best MG J2 in the country, he even got invited to Daytona Beach to show it.
I find the old cars fascinating but absolutely horrible to drive (IMO of course), beautiful to look at though!!
These days many classic car show organisers accept more modern cars if they are 'interesting'.
For the last 2 years I have displayed the Honda at shows in Sussex and Surrey, and come July it is entered in Classics At Sherborne Castle (Dorset), a huge event in a delightful setting.
Sherborne is a lovely unspoilt town, devoid of the characterless high street names, very county and a joy to explore.
At shows the Honda always creates quite a bit of interest. More senior folk not up to speed with modern sports cars do a double take when they see the bonnet badge and then proceed to inspect the car.
The youngster love it, and sometimes ask to hear the exhaust ( the big bore pipes of the HSK Silent hint at a proper sportscar noise ), and there are many for whom an ageing classic needing regular fettling is not practical.
The most frequent observation? "You don't see many of these".
There were some newer cars on show as well, but the latest Porsche's and 'vette's do nothing for me, so didn't take any photos.
I think this type of event need to allow newer yet interesting cars in as well, as very old classic cars are not to everyone's taste. For example most of the GT40's were newer kit cars, and although they are based on a 1960's racer they aren't "real" classic cars.
