Default Lotus Exige

Morning

So what do we all think about the Exige then?

A few weeks off work and messing about in Thailand has led my thoughts into the 'what car next' debate.

Looks like I'm going to keep the Renault for a bit as there's no point selling it, although the TVR has been in the garage for two months and it looks like I'll be putting it up for sale in Feb - March time.

Purely on the basis that I want something more track orientated, and less expensive to maintain whilst doing 3-4 track days per year.

I've looked at loads of Caterhams, Westies etc although I'm thinking that I want something marginally more practical.

Elise looks Ok but a bit too 'cute' for my liking so I've looked at a couple of Exiges over the weekend. They look fantastic, and by all accounts handle really well too.

So - Exige or Exige S? Thoughts?

I'm absolutely chuffed to bits with mine as a track car.

I've done Donny, Rockingham, Spa for 2 days, and Combe twice and the car hasn't even developed a squeak. Superb.

Just put some video of Combe up in this forum.

Mine's an S but I dont think you would be unhappy with either. It's tewaked to about 250bhp now, so it's a rocket ship, and therefore very fun to drive on normal roads too.

Mark B and Echo now have them, and Ikobo just bought one

Rich, not only do I have an Exige, but am moving up to your neck of the woods in January.

So if you can hang on, we'll get a trackday sorted and you can have a go.

Give me a bell.

Ah don't you just love it when you get two excellent responses like that!

Cheers fellas - and yes it seems like the Exige has got a thumbs up all round.

I'll have a mouch around some of the garages over the next month or so!

Engine aside, has the S got the same suspension etc?

Mark - I'll give a bell later! Good news on the move too!

Thoughts are a 06 Exige S or an earlier normally aspirated one that I can play around with.

Why are so many in sliver / grey?

Because grey is the best colour, then red

Exige and Exige S sahre the same Bilstien suspension and engine etc, it's just the S has the blower on there.

There are 2 main packs, sports and touring. Soprt gives you traction control, twin oil coolers, adjustable ARB, and 4 point harness. The touring gives you some gay things Air con was an option.

I think in 07 they introduced supers sport and super touring packs, which were addition such as lightweight magnesuim alloys, AP 4 pots, Ohlins / Bilstien adjustable suspension etc.

The 07 onwards also got variable traction control, where mine is just fixed.

Can't think of much else...

There's a buyers guide in this months Evo mag too.

Owners with no imagination

What you buy depends what you want from the car Rich.

I wasn't so worried about straight-line speed but want something that will be enjoyable round a track. I chose the car with the least stuff bolted to it I could (no supercharger, no aircon, no nothing) and have spent a few

Having been around Spa in an Ohlins equiped car, I can confirm they are incredibly good. I'm lurking for a set.

Get a naturally aspirated Exige if you plan on daily-driving the car as well.... on the S the intercooler will block what little rearward vision existed there before.

Downforce and feel in an NA Exige and an S are virtually (if not exactly) the same, it's the power and outward visiblity that's different.

I'm crazy though, if I were in the UK I'd be looking for a lightly used Atom 1 with the B18C5 motor and daily drive *it*. I also ride motorcycles though so to me Atoms are already more "practical".
