I test drove a nice orange Exige S few weeks back, was amazing!

Thinking very seriously about it, although my sister and her husband seem to have no end of trouble with their Elise which has put me off a little.

Morning

So what do we all think about the Exige then?

A few weeks off work and messing about in Thailand has led my thoughts into the 'what car next' debate.

Looks like I'm going to keep the Renault for a bit as there's no point selling it, although the TVR has been in the garage for two months and it looks like I'll be putting it up for sale in Feb - March time.

Purely on the basis that I want something more track orientated, and less expensive to maintain whilst doing 3-4 track days per year.

I've looked at loads of Caterhams, Westies etc although I'm thinking that I want something marginally more practical.

Elise looks Ok but a bit too 'cute' for my liking so I've looked at a couple of Exiges over the weekend. They look fantastic, and by all accounts handle really well too.

So - Exige or Exige S? Thoughts?

Cheers for that

I know they're pretty sparce, although that's what I'm after to be fair.

High top end speed will be missed too, although after taking off at 170mph on a Begian motorway kind of put big speed into perspective!

I suppose if I was missing the 420 horses from the Tuscan I could always try bungee jumping!

Also at 80 plus things get too noisy for a long drive.

brilliant for a blat or the track

hopeless as a motorway cruiser

if only more people could see that their car is not the perfect all rounder

it's not a bloody failing is it?

every now and again I look at cars like the Exige and fancy one

but then I remember it would be pointless for me

I do agree with Sub's comments about ultimate bhp too - it doesn't matter how light the car is - it's still a modest output from the engine in overall terms

after a Tuscan (even with a weedy 370bhp) I don't know....

Yeah, those TVR's might do that sort of speed, but it's very scary and not useable.

If you want to do that sort of thing you need something which has a decent aero package to match the BHP output, Porsche, BMW, Jag, Audi, GTR, etc.

My first thought would be a Caterham R500, always loved them and did you see it go round the Top Gear track? Faster than a Zonda F and it spent 100% of the time in the corners drifting

I've got an Exige (not an S version) and am very pleased with it. I had an S2K before I bought the Lotus (along with a clio V6, and VX220 previously) but all of them are very different. As others have mentioned it feels very planted to the road, and is a great "drivers car". There was a buyers guide in EVO last month (NA version) so it's worth taking a read through it as it was spot on. IMHO aircon is a must (my old vx220 didn't have it and was super hot in the summer, and super cold in the winter without a decent heater) - i wouldn't be without it.

Here's a pic of mine (i prefer silly colours)
