Is this the loudest engine of all time?
WOW! When he blips the throttle, it sounds like some sort of wierd mating call a grizzly bear on ecstacy and speed would make! That is absolutley fantastic. You can definately hear a V8 base though!
Into the red a wonderful book, and saw/heard the other BRMV16 at the goodwood revival meeting in 2001 and even when it was at the other end of the track, at full throttle if drowned out much closer (racing) cars... boy what music !!
unfortunately the concept was 30/40 years ahead of it's time re. the science necessary to get 500bhp from 1.5L reliably !
btw the single exit amuse titan on my S is pretty bloody loud too !

The BRM in my book is just about the finest engine sound ever, the blips on down changes are awesome, along with the odd occasion when it was on cam and at full song. I wonder if some modern engine management might make it more reliable. it just makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and then i shiver, Its a bit like a soprano opera signer for engineers.
Insofar as loudest engine is concerned, I recall being at Ingliston in the late '70's and hearing (if that's the word...) an Asahi Pentax sponsored RX7. This thing had a megaphone-shaped exhaust outlet which I suspect was an open pipe - it was THE loudest engine I have ever heard. It was impossible to stand closer than 100 metres or so to the car with engine running and one's fingers in one's ears...
