Default LPG what are your thoughts + advice please

As per title, what are your thoughts on using LPG over petrol / diesel?

I am selling the Boxster and looking to go practical. Top of my list of cars I am looking to buy is the Range Rover Sport, I have looked at HSE Diesel but they only do 26 MPG and with diesel priced around

hmmmm.

I thought LPG got about the same as petrol (give or take a % or 2) but was economical as it was about half the price.

I think then people mislead by saying it gets double the mpg rather than truthfully saying it's half the price.

And yes, LPG prices will go up. The treasury want to keep a certain income stream from fuel so the more people move to LPG the higher the price will go to compensate.

Ok I am a little niave on LPG as it has never intested me until now but that is what I thought.

There are a few on PH advertising that their LPG 4x4 is returning 30-50mpg on the gas, this is what was confusing me.

A pointless exercise IMO if the LPG is going to go up in price too.... Jee's the sooner I escape the UK the better!! There will be oxygen and urine tax soon.

I quite like the idea of a big barge that runs on LPG - comfort and economy!

I'm assuming you're buying on pre-converted?

Oh, should add depreciation will be the biggest factor in running one of these

Heard of a 56 plate, 15k miles, fully loaded inc. dog basket, cat flap, etc.
Cost new was 67k. Yours for 30k.

A good second hand buy for someone but you can't give em away at the moment.

My understanding of LPG is that you get slightly poorer fuel economy - something like 85-95% of petrol.

The overall saving is the much, much cheaper fuel cost (until Gordon taxes it more ....)

It is a buyers market for these Range Rovers at the moment. You can get average mileage 3.0 TD6 Sport models with Satnav, TV, leather etc for under 20k now. That is 10k less than 6 months ago

Economy and value for money is a whole load of factors.

You must take in to consideration the road tax as well.

Personally if you are going down this route then get a barge that stays away from the newer road tax CO2 bandings.

Try and get a car that is a MY03 and you will be safer for a couple of years + the LPG conversion has already happened

If you go for a quick fix cost saving i.e the forecourt price then you could end up being more out of pocket in the long run
