Waze good for traffic in UK

Will have a look
It's the Here we go app. You can download the whole of UK - or any other mapped country to the phone over wifi when at home. Does NOT use the mobile data connection to download apps or navigate, happens all in the phone. For free.

I get it but Google maps does all of that too
I can use it out in the sticks walking my dog with no signal (needs to see the sky for GPS but even that is no issue in woods)

Yes I agree but the differece is that with Google maps you can only download a small area, with Here you can download a whole country. This is rather marvellous when one is abroad especially outside of EU (for those of us who still have EU roaming). Also nagigation works in Here when you're off line, but not in Google maps (as this is done in the cloud).

I think your suggestion of HereWeGO has been getting pelters recently, not working at all or mis routing people. Reviews have definitely dropped.
To confirm - it's crap!
I'll give Waze a go in a couple of weeks when I'm back from holiday, I used it a few years ago and it was a bit meh.. but developers have made it better over the years. Uses to be a good accident spotter but now, with added speed cameras

Waze is very good. Uses Google maps but better at ducking traffic issues

We used that on the way to York not that long ago and it suddenly beeped and pulled us off the A1... Off up the slip road we went and 2 mins later we are running alongside the mother of all traffic jams

Anyway I used Google maps in Alicante yesterday, downloaded map in case of dodgy signal as we went to some waterfalls in the mountains. Flawless though the roads here are littered with speed bumps

Not so flawless was the Audi hire car with an engine which was all turbo meaning the power delivery was nothing nothing nothing lurch

The ICE is dead for plebs.. hang onto that straight 6 er FFS

Gonna buy another V8 when I return to the UK

Have you been looking at Google play reviews? It's funny any app gets crap reviews by people unable to operate the app - Here is very easy. I have been using it for about 9 years and it has never failed me. One example being in SoHo New York city a few years ago. Hadn't paid for roaming, Wife "Where is that bookstore around here". I could take her there a minute later having consulted my offline Here map. Exaclty the same in Venice. I tend not to use it too much in the UK now because I have a 32GB data allowance on O2 (£ 8/month through Which). But I do use it in the S2000 - I use a retired smartphone without simcard that I slot into a back cover I have taped to the radio door. Or I study the paper map just like we used to do only a few years ago. Sat nav is for lazy people.

I should have said that Here we go is actually Navteq, something 85% of car drivers are very familiar with, as that is the software that is behind the sat nav in their car. Navteq is not crap. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navteq Not many people complain about their car sat nav nowadays. With Here you get it for free with free map updates,

Out of date maps, clunky interface. The e has it right, just be a screen and aerial for the phone and let android auto go

Fair enough. We don't have Android auto in our 2014 car.
