Just a quick question or three (an no.. i haven't been done.. yet).
but the ones on the bridges..
1) do they work at night/fog
2) Can they get you as you come towards them?
3) how far can they get you at.
I know which bridges they are on, on my work trip, and you can see them (across the apex thru trees down a hill) before they can see you ...
Just wondered about the above.?
cheers

I believe the scamera vans can't operate in heavy rain/fog/at night, as the laser has to hit a flat part of the car and so has to be operated very precisely. Not 100% sure on that, but I've read it somewhere...
I've also read that xenon lights eff up the readings, but again, could be urban legend.
Fact of the matter is, they can get you from a *long* way off, up to a mile, and they can catch you from the front as well; I have proof, as my last set of points came from an NIP sent with an amusing pic of me driving an Avensis (hire car!!!) and mouthing "f***ers..." as I went past the camera...

No sadly, Joper, that was about two years ago coming out of Bath (the A46 climbing north out of the city, for reasons best known to the HA/council, it's a frigging 50mph limit!!!), and the shame of driving an Avensis and being done for doing 65mph in a 50 in one was too much to bear. They took one pic from where they caught me (the car is a speck) and then one as I passed, by which time I was mouthing obscenities at them. Well, driving an Avensis puts you in a bad mood anyway...
Funnily enough, they were parked on the other side of a road in the entrance to an escape lane for HGVs on the downhill carriageway, and on double yellows. Found out too late that I could've appealed that one...
IIRC from a post by a traffpol on 5ive-o they can (or at least some can) operate at night, but the main reason they don't is they don't have the resources to pay staff (oddly
).
If there were, I imagine you would see them in urban areas with good lighting - I have never seen any after 6pm or so.
