Default Mandatory Driving License Retesting

How would you feel about having to re-take your license, at your cost, every 10 years?
Or in the next 12 months if you have an accident or go over 12 points on your license?

I'm sending a letter to my MP to suggest it's a better solution to congestion, emissions and road safty than current proposals.

I'm thinking, I'd rather take a retest every ten years for

I've always been completely in favour of this. It makes perfect sense.

The only problem would be finding all the extra examiners.

It would be an adminstrative nightmate, and it couldn't be policed by cameras so would be unenforaceable with our current police force.

It could be policed via APNR. Particularly if you have to present a current licence when you buy road tax.

Dear Mr Balls.

I can reduce road congestion, CO2 emissions, and improve road safety all with one simple quick proposal.

Never mind your road pricing and your double car tax, bill.

The simple answer is Mandatory Driving License Retesting!

To be honest it

How is the ANPR system going to know who is driving, and thus whether they have a valid licence, though? That only works if you limit driving to the registered keeper of the car, surely?

The second bit might be easier to enforce - although again it presupposes that only the registered keeper (rather than a spouse/friend/whoever else with a licence) is allowed to tax the car.

I don't disagree with the idea in principle - indeed, it may do a lot to improve the currently woeful standard of driving on the roads - but I foresee major difficulties in enforcing it.

No difference than with speed cameras.
The 'victim' will obviously have the right to appeal.
