Default Meguiars G220 DA

Calling all detailing whores/geeks/experts* delete as appropriate.

I'm thinking of getting some kind of orbital doo dah to help keep my car looking in tip top condition and was wondering what you all recommend.

I don't want to faff about with transformers and the like so I guess that rules out the Porter Cable so was thinking of the Meguiars G220.

Do any of you have experience of this machine and if so what are your impressions ?

Also where would be the best place to buy one ? I have seen them on Ebay for around

I wrote a rather lengthy review of the Makita I now use, however not sure if I can still find it ... there may be a be a pic of it I will try and find for you then review it for you too. BRB sometime soon with an update

here is a pic of the said item to keep you going ... it ain't cheap though.

Btw this is a rotary and an orbital in one device. Using the orbital side of the device find that it is superior to the PC, it has more power and never gets bogged down, it will actually remove swirls that the PC would struggle with. In rotary mode it gets a whole lot interesting not quite as full powered as my previous Makita rotary, not by a long way actually but very good, and ideal RPM for a car approx 1500 if I recall. I hate the postion of the switch on the device, makes it quite awkward to use, and the exhaust pipe (for a bag I think) can get in the way if you are doing spoilers and things. The weight is good, its heavier than a PC but just as easy to handle, and as I said much more powerful.

I don't know what they are selling for right now, but I paid about 185 for it I think, but sold my PC to make up some of the difference. BTW I also have a CYCLO that I will be selling soon if you are interested, not sure what I want for it yet but it will include a box full of pads for it. Do a google search if you are not sure what a cyclo is, I would say this device was on a par with the PC and the Megs orbital, it is much easier to manoeuvre than it s appearance might suggest.

Anyway, to your point, the Megs device will no doubt be good they tend to know what they are on about in the detailing game, having said that I wouldn't go back to a PC now after having used the Makita above, I am babbling on .... time to stop typing.

Better give the devices stock number i guess that might be useful, it is a

Great advice yet again.

To be honest I'm a complete novice to the machine polisher game, although I have plenty of products that I have applied by hand knocking around.

My main use for a machine polisher will be to help remove those fine spiders web scratches from the lacquer and then to reduce time when buffing and to try and achieve a greater finish.
