Mercedes design inspiration
Whilst not a fan per se, I've never found Mercs offensive to look at until recently. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but finally think I've sussed what's putting me off.
The latest C and S Class have that toy car look about them, as if they're scaled up Matchbox or Corgi examples. It's those chunky looks, particularly at the rear end, that just do them no favours.
I presume they must be employing the same designer who did the Chrysler Hemi ...
Anyone else agree they've lost any subtlety ...

First noticed that wide wheel arch thing when the last S-class was launched.
That was shortly after a very similar design appeared on the Focus. S-class copies Focus?

Looks fine on the RX-8, where it belongs.
It's me-too that or me-too Christ Bungle at the moment.
M-B has just decided to freeze the sizes of the current range and cut weight, so with standardisation of options in order to become reliable, there is some hope that they will become respectable again and not a joke brand for the pompous.
If they get back to the restrained, classical styling (german cars are invariably ugly, but used to be well-proportioned) and lose the tart's boudoir interiors, it may be fine again.

One reason for the similarity between these Chrylsers and a Mercedes Benz, is that the 300 is just a reskinned version of the old model series of MB E-class. As part of the (failed) merger between MB & Chrysler that was one of the little projects they did to try to breath some life into Chrylser.
