But i took my Dad's MX5 out for a spin over the weekend and I was very impressed. It is "only" the 1.8 but what a sweet engine - more than enough go, all the way to 7k.

SWMBO is now off to look at a new 2.0 model....VAT free

I always hear good things about the mx5,there supposed to be good at handling,I've never driven one though, there was a few at the dragstrip the other month(supercharged and turbo examples) and they were putting down decent times.

Don't care if it's Hear'say - the MX-5 is a fantastic fun car.

Very definitely in the less>more school of thought.

As with the 86 - I like crap cars.

I'd probably be the last hanged in Britain with an M3 or AMG9.6 or somesuch.

EDIT; WTF? My keyboard seems to have started missing keystrokes - particularly the e...

Bought my missus a 1.6 mk1 at the start of summer. It's utterly hilarious to drive.

Simply brilliant. It has sod all power but doesn't need it. If anything, more power would spoil the fun.

it has enough oomph to be fun without worrying that you are going to get into serious trouble when it goes wrong.

Off to the local dealer on Saturday...

I drove a 1.6 back to back with an MGF VVC

Despite a huge power difference i swore the 5 would be quicker over a lap somewhere, great on brakes, great handling, great steering. If thats doesnt tell you that light is good you're not teachable.

It was the original and some time ago.

I'd love an exige but i have a kid. The M3 is great for loafing back from the station half asleep and feels like its solid as granite. Its basically a supersaloon in coupe form

I was chatting to Ian at Carbotech last week whilst ordering pads.
Hes canned the Evo in favour of the MX5 as a track toy, and supercharged it.
But even hes reverting to stock for simplicity.

That is a good enough reccommend for me.

I love the Mx5, just not as much as the s2k, they even do one of the current models in a much gayer blue than my nurby, which i didn't think would be possible
Superb cars, nice and simple, good fun to drive and plenty of mods out there (at least for the older models), only thing is they are so common on our roads but then there's good reason for that.

What made you opt for the mazda instead KFC????
