KFC...are you THIS KFC..?

prize for "tartiest gearbox tunnel cover ever.."

Assuming it's too coincidental for you not to be the same person...I feel ever so slightly dirty for asking but...how much would you charge for a quilted cover such as that? - feel free to PM if you'd rather!

Yes I am indeed that KFC , busted that car went about 18months ago

I chose another 5 Mk3 2litre sport this time because in no particular order
1.cost , both cheaper to run and modify, I bought it to modify and parts are a hell of lot cheaper and they are incredibly well supported in after market
2. 20k service intervals
3. It's a fourth car So the potential expenses of an S where a worry
4. it's a road car for me and would the s be any faster on the road in reality or more fun for that matter
5. Finding a reasonably priced s in a good spec was doing my head in
6. Although the 5 is a much more basic car it is a almost ten year newer design and that does show
7. I get to play in all sorts of exotic ish classics and am building a Hotrod so did I really need something I know I would cosset and worry about
8. I like underdogs

I've had it a few days now and I friggin love it, it's not perfect by any stretch but it is an exceptional little car and will respond well to mods .

The quilted stuff in my old car was nakamae and insanely expensive from Japan. But I can make it to order if needs be, it would probably be a couple of hundred but much much cheaper if you source diamond stitch vinyl from the us as it just needs cutting binding and fixings

'91 - '94 (1.6 long crank) are the best. Lightest, and best power to weight ratio.

Yes, the 2.5 has a great VVT engine, but it's unreliable, and heavier...the latter can be said for the earlier 1.8s too.

The Mk3s look great and are very nice, but they aren't mazdas...made by ford actually, and proving less than reliable.

Always look out for rust on the sills...walk immediately away from those ones...

Your kind of wrong 91-96 are fine but diffs are weaker and brakes are shit and scuttle shake , early 1.8 is best for boost as has stronger diff ( Torsen on majority of imports) much more chassis bracing but no extra Saftey gubbins And low compression. Jap imports have air con and lecy windows which makes them heavier but more desirable and usually less rust. the engines where all 323 turbo derived so boost is not a problem

Non could really considered unreliable even mk 3 as far as I can descern unless you think the s is even less reliable, yeah mk3 are ford but that doesn't stop them being great cars the original was a bitsa that saved the company

Rear arches and sills do rust but it is easily sorted and mk1 without rust are few and far between these days , a couple of hundred to sort per side if you got to the right place

Btw I had a 94 uk 1.8 turbo'd from new by bbr one of 11 built , in the 5 years or so I owned it it never had a single mechanical problem other than badly chosen mods by me, was 200hp which for me was the sweet spot in terms of power good ride despite low ride height , was a cracking car and more than capable of embarrassing all sorts of stuff

I had a Mk2.5 with turbo and WI etc. Managed to get over 300bhp out of it with similar torque levels. It was a great track toy but I fettled too much and kept wanting more power.

Great handling

I initially made that miatake.

Miatake was a typo, but talk about serendipity!

Interesting point about 'standard cars'.
