Default Mini

My wife wants a cooper s convertible and we're off to view a couple of 3-4 yr olds at local mini dealer at the weekend.

Any advice on what to watch out for from anyone who had one/has one? I don't like their 2yr/25k usage-based service interval for a start.

Danke.

Made by BMW................... boycott!

Very poor reliability rating.

Computer keeps malfunctioning - registering errors that don't exist. and had to fix a mechanical problem that is apparently 'common' with new minis. but it runs well and starts every time etc. Bmw/mini always terrible for replacement costs. they have you over a barrel and take advantage of this.

Reliability: 3/5

Build Quality: 4/5

Check the roof condition and operation very carefully as it's expensive to fix. Check for leaks into the boot area - you may need to soak the car which won't be easy with most dealers. However, they should be able to pull up any warranty work that's been done and that may highlight any niggling repeat problems. My sister ran a Cooper convertible and the dealers seemed happy to tinker but reluctant to replace things. The car started playing up just before the warranty expired and worsened from then on. She liked the car but it looked likely to be unreliable as it aged so it was sold. Swapped for a Merc convertible - much better car in terms of reliability.

I note the Tricouleur is turned 90 degrees on the middle one and there's smoke coming out of it. Hmmm...

Watch out for people are laughing out at you when they realise a fella is driving it.
