There's modified and there's modified.

It doesn't take a genius to work out whether a car's been improved or ruined by the work done.

I bought my second S2000 from the legendary Maca (no longer around) whose modifying project we were all able to follow closely and by then I had been able to form an opinion of the guy and his approach to the power/handling/brakes balance. The only other one I would consider in the same league (apologies to anyone I may wrongly be overlooking) would be eSeM.

The trouble is, the life expectancy of modifications i.e. will it stand all I will throw at it and not break leaving me up sh*t creek without a proverbial paddle? And then, if buying as stock Honda, will it revert to Honda reliability having been 'parted out' by the IT consultant/hobby mechanic in his spare time and with limited access to Honda tools and diagnostics?

Funnily enough, the only part of Maca (Cameron)'s beast that let me down was the brakes. A seized caliper. Cameron had been messing about with the brakes himself, not paying trained mechanics to do something that simple

As a true gentleman having sold 'as seen' he contributed to my cost of repair

I laugh when i see cars, where you have to give them a second look to see what car they actually started out as .

Made me laugh when the modified, lowered, car was the worst handling of the lot. Its like modifying the engine and getting less power!

i would guestimate that 90% of mods are for looks / noise and not true performance....

My idea of performance may vary from other, but I mean go faster, stop quicker and be faster / more stable in the twisties.

I agree - 90% show; not go.

Mind you, with those old E30s with their semi swing-axle rear suspension, clueless lowering was bound to be lethal.

Hellacrash.

It would be a bit embarrassing to find out you'd just bought a car from yourself!

I'm sure Mark must have bought a car back that he'd previously sold at some point.
